France Talent Investor Residence Permit: Direct Economic Investment Explained

France’s Talent project-bearer route may cover a foreign investor making at least €300,000 in qualifying direct economic investment and creating or preserving jobs in France.

Often marketed as the “Talent Passport Investor” or “large investor visa,” the current legal category is the direct-economic-investment ground within the multi-year Talent – porteur de projet residence card. Depending on the project, the permit may be issued for up to four years.

€300,000 alone is not enough. The applicant must document the investment vehicle, qualifying control, source and deployment of funds, and the creation or preservation of jobs within four years.

Cumulative Requirements

Investor Connection

The investment may be made personally or through a company the applicant directs or in which the applicant holds at least 30% of the capital.

Minimum Investment

At least €300,000 must be invested in qualifying tangible or intangible fixed assets. Each expense should be legally categorized and evidenced.

Employment Commitment

The project must create or preserve jobs, or include a credible commitment to do so, within four years of the investment.

What Counts as Direct Economic Investment?

The category is designed for productive participation in the French economy rather than passive wealth holding. A personal home purchase, a diversified securities portfolio without control, or idle cash will not ordinarily establish the required project.

Evidence Checklist

  • Corporate chart proving management or at least 30% ownership of the investing company.
  • Detailed French business plan and implementation calendar.
  • Bank records, agreements, transfers, and lawful source-of-funds evidence.
  • Articles, Kbis extract, shareholder agreements, and acquisition contracts.
  • Itemized tangible and intangible fixed-asset schedule.
  • Four-year job-creation or preservation plan with credible assumptions.
  • Premises, permits, partners, vendors, and operational milestones.
  • Personal-resource and accompanying-family documentation.
Separate funds already deployed, irrevocably committed funds, and future intended spending. Every amount should match a supporting document and a qualifying investment category.

Family, Validity, and Renewal

Eligible spouses and children can generally apply under the Talent-family framework, which allows the spouse to work. At renewal, French authorities may assess whether the promised investment and employment milestones were actually completed.

Common Mistakes

  • Counting a personal real-estate purchase toward €300,000.
  • Failing to prove management or 30% ownership of the investing entity.
  • Treating a repayable loan or idle liquidity as completed investment.
  • Using a generic, unsupported hiring plan.
  • Providing an incomplete source-and-transfer trail.
  • Failing to preserve execution evidence for renewal.
